Maverick Party Condemns Trudeau for Invoking Emergencies Act

February 14, 2022, Calgary, AB With Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canadian history, he has demonstrated that, “it is easier to strip the rights of the protesters rather than walk down the steps of Parliament Hill and speak to the Freedom Convoy organizers,” said Maverick Party Interim Leader, Jay Hill.

While Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and PEI are lifting restrictions, or have announced they will soon, Trudeau is intent upon continuing to impose additional anti-democratic measures. With just 20% support from Canadian voters in last September’s election he now wants 100% power by enforcing the unnecessary Emergencies Act.

Trudeau has failed to lead the country. Rather than denigrating the original Freedom Convoy participants as a “fringe minority with unacceptable views” had he listened and spoken to Canadians outside the Parliament Hill bubble, he would have known people were scared, frustrated, angry, and wanted leadership. Not a dictator-in-hiding.

It is time for the West to break free from the shackles of Ottawa’s tyranny and take the first all-important step to declare the four Western provinces a nation-within-a-nation.

“Now is the time for Premiers Stefanson, Moe and Kenney to lead. Now is the time for action, not words. I call upon Western Premiers to work together to introduce legislation to provide Western Canadian the autonomy from Ottawa’s tyranny they so obviously need and deserve,” Hill stated.

This change in status could mirror Quebec’s and their ability to exist without the federal government’s overreach and intrusion. Western provinces must have the freedom to truly respect the entrepreneurial Spirit of the West.
