Maverick Unequivocally Opposes Trudeau’s Latest Attacks on Western Canada

Justin Trudeau has never made an attempt to hide his contempt for Western Canada and all that the West represents. His list of blatant attacks on Western Canadians is akin to an American CVS pharmacy receipt: endlessly growing and seemingly never ending.

Trudeau’s COP26 announcements are much of the same. Shrouded in a vale of virtue signalling and righteousness, they are at their heart, a continued manifestation of his war on Western Canada.

"We'll cap oil and gas sector emissions today and ensure they decrease tomorrow at a pace and scale needed to reach net-zero by 2050," Trudeau said in Scotland.

“That's no small task for a major oil and gas producing country. It's a big step that's absolutely necessary."

This represents the latest in a string of blows to the Western Canadian economy during his time as Prime Minister . To those that would like to see Western energy shut down, this announcement sounds exactly like what Canada needs. But the harsh reality is that these announcements represent people, and families, and their ability to put a roof over their heads and feed those families. More importantly, damaging and hog tying Canada’s innovative energy sector will only cause an increase in global emissions into the future.

“Canada is building its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal, where the product is expected to be used primarily to displace coal in Asian markets.” reads a recent report from the Canadian Energy Centre

“If used to replace coal in China, natural gas from LNG Canada alone is expected to reduce emissions by 60 to 90 million tonnes per year. That’s more [of a reduction] than the 50 million tonnes emitted from Canada’s entire natural gas production sector in 2018.”

The reality is that when analyzed globally, Canadian energy is a net benefit on the world stage. Trudeau should be championing our energy sector as a means to reduce global emissions. Instead, he is taking away a prosperous future in the West leaving hundreds of thousands of Canadian families in the cold.

“Rather than environmentalists in BC and Quebec protesting against pipeline construction, IF they really cared about global climate change, they should be protesting for MORE Canadian pipelines!” Wrote Jay Hill of the Maverick Party in a recent Western Standard column.

“Global demand for fossil fuels is increasing, so instead of bowing to the pressure of Trudeau, Quebec’s Steven Guilbeault, Joe Biden or Greta Thunberg by imposing further penalties on our ethical energy industry, doesn’t it make more sense to follow the lead of Norway who are growing their oil and gas production, not shutting it down? “ Hill Continues

Norway, hailed as a country holding the highest environmental standards on the globe, is investing over 8.8 billion into new development of its northernmost oilfields. They understand that the world needs responsibly developed oil and gas to offset the globe's dirty production and to create a real dent in global emissions.

“Why do they want to leave our Western Canadian oil in the ground while countries with much lower environmental protection, labour standards and limited human rights increase production and prosper? In what kind of crazy alternate universe does this make any sense?“ said Hill

Western Canadians are having the rug pulled right out from under them. At the same time as the rug is being pulled, the car is getting towed away, and a giant crane is lifting the house they built right off its foundations.

Unless we take action against Ottawa, the only thing left for the West will be unsheltered cold rain where our house once stood, and the bill.
